Erath County Clerk Public Service Announcement Regarding COVID-19

In an abundance of caution and in keeping with the recommendations of the CDC and the Texas Office of Court Administration, the Erath County Clerk’s office is taking precautionary measures to reduce potential exposure to our staff and our local community members through participation and cooperation with public social distancing measures.

Effective March 18, 2020 at 12 noon our doors will be temporarily closed to the public, we will not assist customers in- person UNLESS they have pre-arranged appointment. We will monitor the situation and determine changes or extensions as needed. 


Until further notice, all nonessential and nonemergency functions of the office are closed effective immediately.

We will continue to work and will provide the usual and customary clerk functions and processes related to court and will issue any necessary warrants and writs as directed by the County Court at Law.

We will continue to process court filings through the Texas eFile system and will continue to answer phone calls, emails, and requests received through the U.S. Mail during regular business hours.

Court costs, fines and fees can be paid online at  Use Bureau Code 5324595. A 2.85% fee will apply, or call      1-866-539-2020.  Cash, check or money order payments can be placed in the drop box outside our office.

We will continue to issue certified copies of birth certificates, death certificates and marriage license.  Applications can be found on our website or on the table outside of our office. Completed applications can be mailed in or placed in the drop box outside our office along with the appropriate fee. The certified record will be mailed to you on the same day if submitted prior to 2:00 p.m.

Marriage licenses will be issued by pre-arranged appointment only. 

Real Estate filings can be submitted by mail or dropped in the drop box outside our office, along with the appropriate fee.  All documents received prior to 2:00 p.m. will be filed the same business day, filings received after 2:00 p.m. will be processed on the next business day.

We understand that these changes may present temporary hardships for some, and we appreciate your patience.  We will do our best to work with each of you to meet your needs, as we are able, on a case-by-case basis, using the currently available technology and resources.
